Movie Review: SHAZAM!
|Starring Zachary Levi|
I went to see Shazam on Sunday night with no expectations whatsoever and truly enjoyed the film. I don’t want to add any spoilers so if you haven’t seen it, no worries. I will just give you a very brief synopsis of the movie so you can get an idea of the film. In a nutshell, Shazam is about 14-year-old Billy Batson that comes across a wizard by the name of Shazam, who transferred his magic to him after searching for centuries for “the one with a purest heart.” Billy along with his foster care brother quickly figure out his super hero abilities with a series of tests and unexpected events. Whenever Billy says “Shazam”, he can either transform into the adult super hero or back to his 14-year-old self. Shazam is filled with a lot of humor, wit, surprises, sensitivity, a bit scary if you watch it at night, a little gruesome, and of course awesomeness! The film has its fair share of emotional ups and downs which I believe is what made it enjoyable in my opinion. There were a ton of relatable scenes that a non-comic book reader can relate to and enjoy and if they’re also not a super hero fanatic like me. Shazam is kid friendly as well. There are no bad language, nudes’ scenes, etc. One thing I will say if you are taking kids to see it, so you don’t give them nightmares, is to cover their eyes when it gets scary. Overall, I’m giving Shazam a 9 out of 10 because it is definitely worth watching. What I enjoyed most about the film was of course the humor but the ability to also insert human relatable experiences as well. The DCEU really rose up to the challenge with Shazam and I’m looking forward to what they have in store. P.S. You also look forward to seeing a familiar face from the MCU film Captain Marvel that I previously did a review on😉
